At 3,420 feet (1,021 meters) above sea level, the summit of the Tijuca Peak in Rio de Janeiro is the highest point of the Tijuca National Park and the highest in Rio's central área. On this 5-hour tour, you will cross most of the urban forest by car, before hiking to the top of the mountain, ending with a climb up the 117-step stairway that was carved out of solid gneiss rock more than 100 years ago for a visiting European king. To reach the start of the trail you will cross almost all of the national park by car, passing various waterfalls and scenic views to observe the city from a range of perspectives. Stop off in São Conrado beach for a picture postcard photo opportunity. You will also get the chance to visit the Taunay Waterfall, the highest cascade in the forest. Then, the drive back past scenic viewpoints, such as Emperor’s Table, Chinese Viewpoint and few Waterfalls. At the summit of Tijuca, you will be rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro, providing the perfect opportunity to find your bearings in this complicated city!
